Woman left fighting for life after horrific sex attack in children’s play park as man held over attempted murder

A woman was left fighting for life following a horrific sex attack in children’s playground.

The victim was discovered in Cedar Road Play Park, Leicester, at 4.45am on Friday.

Leicestershire Police said she suffered very serious injuries after being subjected to a horrific assault.

A spokeswoman for the force said the woman is still fighting for her life.

The playground was cordoned off for much of Friday as forensic teams examined the scene and uniformed and plain clothed police officers carried out door-to-door inquiries.

A man was arrested on Tuesday morning suspicion of attempted murder and serious sexual assault, the Leicester Mercury reports.

The 56-year-old man, from Leicester, remains in police custody where he is being questioned by officers.

Crime scene investigators conducted a detailed examination of the scene and CCTV footage was viewed as part of the inquiry.

Officers have said their investigation is very much ongoing and are appealing for anyone with information to come forward.

Detective inspector Gareth Goddard has previously said This woman was subjected to a horrific assault.

We urgently need to trace anyone who may have been in the area surrounding Cedar Road and Evington Place in the early hours of Friday and who may have seen something which can help us identify the person or people responsible for this attack.
