Thomas Cook flight with 284 passengers lands safely in Canary Islands after declaring midair emergency

A plane full of holidaymakers has landed safely from Gatwick after the crew declared a mid-air engine problem.

More than 280 passengers were caught up in the frightening mid-air drama this evening.

But they touched down on Lanzarote in the Canary Islands with no issues.

It is understood all are on board are safe, there have been no injuries or damage to the Boeing 747 aircraft.

Spanish air traffic controllers tweeted two hours ago Flight from Gatwick to Lanzarote with 284 people on board, arriving in emergency due to indication of engine failure.

It is understood the plane was a Thomas Cook flight.

An hour ago, the controllers tweeted again The landing was almost perfect, three fire trucks were waiting but it was not necessary.
