In trouble? Peter Stefanovic’s marriage to Sylvia Jeffreys is reportedly under strain following comments he apparently made about their co-workers in a leaked Uber phonecall

‘The whole thing is so embarrassing for her. She has worked with these people for years and they all knew she was sitting right there when that call took place,’ a source claimed on Monday.

‘She loves him and even though he has been a fool and could have cost them both their careers she wants to be there for him because he needs her support more than ever. He’s really suffering from this,’ the insider added.

The source alleged that Today presenter Sylvia is one of the most ‘popular people’ at the network and has formed ‘close friendships’ – meaning she feels caught in the middle between her husband and their co-workers.

Peter, on the other hand, appears ‘personable’  onscreen but has ‘always been a bit of an outsider’ in the studio, the source claimed.

Rumour has it Weekend Today host Peter, 36, sparked backlash after giving his opinion on a slew of his Channel Nine colleagues while chatting to his older brother Karl in the car back in March

Daily Mail Australia has contacted representatives for Peter and Sylvia for comment.

Scandal erupted in March when New Idea reported that Peter had discussed his Channel Nine colleagues with Karl, while his wife Sylvia sat next to him in their Uber.

He allegedly bemoaned being ‘knocked back’ and having ‘no luck’ when trying to get ahead at the network.

Pete, who has worked for Nine for 14 years, bemoaned his ideas are ‘always knocked back’ and it was ‘sucking the life out of him’.

Comforting Pete, Karl claimed 60 Minutes bosses were ‘out of touch’ and ‘didn’t know anything’ as they continued their whinge.

News presenter and former foreign correspondent Pete also allegedly singled out colleague Mark Burrows in his rant, claiming he often looked down on him.

Peter told The Daily Telegraph that he was ashamed of the humiliation he brought upon himself, his big brother, the Nine Network and on his colleagues.

Feeling the strain? ‘The whole thing is so embarrassing for her. She has worked with these people for years and they all knew she was sitting right there when that call took place,’ a source claimed on Monday

‘I have spoken directly to the people involved and have offered my sincerest apologies as I have been raised to do Do something wrong, apologise and try to move on,’ he said.

Peter and Sylvia, who married in an intimate ceremony in Kangaroo Valley last April, live in a $2.7million estate in Sydney’s exclusive Double Bay.

According to New Idea, the couple were in the middle of developing the house to make it more child-friendly amid plans to have kids.

However, sources claimed that due to Peter’s apparent unpopularity at Nine they have put baby plans on hold amid fears that his contract may not get renewed.
