Strictly Come Dancing star Shirley Ballas dismisses tension with axed dancer Brendan Cole

They hit headlines back in October, after they got into an ‘awkward’ on-air spat over his tango with dance partner Charlotte Hawkins.

And Strictly Come Dancing judge Shirley Ballas has addressed any tensions with axed professional dancer Brendan Cole toHello! magazine, insisting she wished him well after he was dropped from the BBC One show. 

Talking to the publication as part of a new shoot with DWTS son Mark, she said ‘I don’t have any recollection on a personal level of bridges ever being broken or rebuilt between me and Brendan.

‘He is an amazing dancer, an amazing person, whose career I have followed for many, many years and I’m extremely proud of what he’s achieved both at work and at home. 

‘There has been no face-to-face confrontation and all I can say is I wish him, his wife and their two beautiful children well because, whatever he does next, I know he will bring 100% to his role.’

The two stars got into an on-air spat back in October, when Shirley accused Brendan of having the banned ‘rise and fall’ in his tango with Good Morning Britain presenter Charlotte – something he strongly denied.

Moving on And since the spat, Brendan emotionally revealed on Lorraine in January that the BBC hadn’t renewed his contract and that he would not be returning to Strictly

While Brendan later apologised on the results show and said ‘I’ll be better next week, I’ll be quiet, I’ll be quiet, I’m sorry.’

And since the spat, Brendan emotionally revealed on Lorraine in January that the BBC hadn’t renewed his contract and that he would not be returning to Strictly.

He said, while holding back tears ‘It’s hard to talk about. The BBC hasn’t renewed my contract.

‘They made an editorial decision to not have me on the show. I’m quite emotional.

‘I’m a little bit disappointed. It’s very hard to talk about. It’s a recent decision, I’ve always known this day will come….

‘I’m a very strong character within the show, I had my strong views. 

‘I would have preferred to have made the decision myself.’ 

It is not known whether Shirley will be making a comeback to Strictly as head judge this September, and she told the publication that although she’d like to, nothing was ‘as yet official’.

For the magazine shoot, which took place at her Los Angeles home, the Queen of Latin posed with her son, Mark Ballas, who is a professional dancer on American show Dancing With The Stars.
