A group of party-goers were after a night out in a bar when they called for a taxi, but almost got a night behind bars instead.
When Ellie Rogers and her pals asked a cabbie to take them to Birmingham’s plush Pryzm nightclub, they were in for a shock.
He took them to PRISON – HMP Birmingham in Winson Green, where 1,500 men are banged up.
Well, they do sound similar. In the same (prison) sentence, reports the Birmingham Mail.
I hopped on a cab in Tipton at around 10pm for a night out in Birmingham with two friends, says Ellie, 18.
We wanted to go to Pryzm, but he took us to prison!
When we realised we’d arrived at Winson Green, I did a double-take.
We were all shocked. We were like ‘Ohmigod! What have we done?
Ellie and her friends, from Tipton, realised the cab driver had misheard and laughed if off.
It was so funny, she says. We were all dressed up for night out, sitting outside the prison.
I turned round to my friend and said ‘Is he joking?’ But the cab driver didn’t know what to say – he went very quiet.
Eventually the driver took the girls to Pryzm on Broad Street, a 25-minute drive from the prison.
But they were in for another surprise.
On the way back, he kept the meter on! says Ellie. We paid £15.
He charged us extra to take us somewhere we didn’t ask to go.
This incident didn’t ruin Ellie’s night and won’t deter her from going to Pryzm again.
I might have to explain where we want to go very carefully, she adds.
Next time, I will ask the cab driver to take me to Gatecrasher, which is what the club used to be called.
Choice and Wednesbury Cars Ltd, the cab company Ellie called, was unavailable for comment.
