Carl Ray, a make-up artist based in Washington, D.C., took to Instagram to post the shot while paying tribute to Michelle’s friendship in a kind post.

The former first lady, 54, can be seen in the photo dressed in a white robe with one hand on her hip, pouting as she wraps her arm around Carl’s shoulders.

Friendship Carl, who works in Washington, D.C. but geotagged the photo in San Diego, California, said he’s had an ‘amazing 10 years’ working with Michelle

Candid Michelle didn’t hesitate to pout for the camera while posing with Carl

Carl, who is wearing a zipped black sweater and thick-rimmed glasses in the snap, smiles at the camera while tipping his head towards Michelle’s.

The former first lady’s make-up looks impeccable in the image.

Her eyes are emphasized with black eyeliner and mascara, while her nude-colored lips have a nice shine.

Her engagement ring, a one-carat diamond solitaire, is clearly visible in the picture.

‘Hello from me and @michelleobama,’ Carl wrote in his Instagram caption. ‘What an amazing 10 years it’s been. #decadeofbeauty’

Carl said he’s happy to call Michelle ‘a friend and boss’, and explained the two are currently getting ready for her 10-city, nationwide book tour, during which she will promote her memoir Becoming.

While Carl’s photo is geolocated in San Diego, California, the make-up artist usually works out of D.C., where he offers his services to other clients at a salon located in the downtown area, half a mile away from the White House.

Michelle’s fans loved the photo and promptly praised her beauty and ‘timeless class’ in the comments section

The picture has garnered 3,705 likes since Carl posted it and plenty of people have left smitten comments raving about the former first lady’s appearance.

Someone gushed about Michelle’s ‘timeless class’, while another person wrote ‘Michelle looks gorgeous!’

‘Classy!! What a beauty!!’ another Instagram user commented.

Carl, a self-taught make-up artist, previously told Glamour he and the then-first lady ‘clicked immediately’ after he worked with her for the first time, getting her ready for the White House’s 2009 Easter Egg Roll.

His clients include other politicians, dignitaries, models, authors, actors, musicians, and celebrities, according to Carl’s biography on the website of the salon he works for.

In addition to getting the former first lady ready for events, the make-up artist has worked for magazines such as Vogue, Glamour, Elle, and Allure.

Carl called Michelle a ‘great collaborator’, telling Glamour ‘She’s always conscious of setting an example. For Mrs. Obama it’s about being polished in an authentic way.

‘She always looks like herself. To exude the confidence she shows the world, she has to feel great in her own skin.’

To that end, he said his favorite product to use on Michelle is ‘a beautiful nude lip gloss’, adding ‘Peach, pink, nude-nude — she’s tried them all.’

During her book tour, Michelle will speak in arenas and other performing centers to accommodate crowds far too big for any bookstore.

The former first lady will begin at the United Center in her native Chicago on November 13, the book’s release date. She will finish at the American Airlines Center in Dallas on December 17.

In between, appearances will include the Barclays Center in New York City, the Pepsi Center Arena in Denver and The Forum in Los Angeles.

Michelle and former President Barack Obama each have been working on memoirs, for which they negotiated a multimillion dollar deal with the Crown Publishing Group. No date has been set for his book, although it’s expected in 2019.

‘I’ve spent the last year and a half reflecting on my story as deeply and honestly as I could, and now I’m thrilled to travel the country and do the same with readers this fall,’ Michelle previously said in a statement.

In a message and video on her Facebook page, she described the book as ‘the story of my humdrum plainness, my tiny victories, my lasting bruises, my ordinary hopes and worries’.

Michelle and event promoter Live Nation will donate 10 per cent of every show’s tickets to local charities, schools, and community groups in each city the tour visits.
