Man remanded in custody charged with murdering young Matalan lovers


A 20-year-old man has appeared in court charged with the murders of Matalan workers Zoe Morgan, 21, and Lee Simmons, 33.

The couple were found dead on Cardiff’s Queen Street on Wednesday, outside of the Matalan store in which they both worked.

Andrew Patrick Saunders, from Castleton near Newport, appeared before Cardiff Magistrates’ Court this morning.

Saunders, who was wearing a grey T-shirt with an orange stripe around the collar, spoke only to confirm his name, date of birth and address, which is of no fixed abode.

He has been remanded in custody.

Since her death, Zoe’s devastated family said in a statement: She had a heart of gold and would do anything for anybody.

She was taken away from us tragically, too soon, and has left a massive hole in our lives that will never be filled.

Zoe will always be in our hearts forever and always.
