A man suffered head injuries in a fall following a 15-hour stand-off with police at London’s Victoria Station.

The man, who police described as “vulnerable”, was spotted in a precarious position at the top of an escalator at the busy commuter hub at around 4am on Monday.

Images later emerged of the man, wearing a red jumper, sitting on the rail at the top of the escalator, with his feet dangling above the concourse.

Despite efforts by police negotiators to persuade the man to come down he jumped from a lower level shortly after 7.30pm.

He was given first aid by paramedics before being taken to hospital in a stable condition.

British Transport Police said the incident will be referred to the Independent Police Complaints Commission.
