Police have confirmed that there was no shooting at Los Angeles International Airport on Sunday evening.

Police searched the airport following unconfirmed reports of a shooter being inside one of the terminal buildings.

Less than an hour after the initial reports, it turned out to be a false alarm.

“Report of shooting at LAX proven to be LOUD NOISES only No Shots Fired No Injuries investigation continues to locate source,” an LAPD officer wrote on Twitter.

Upper/Departures & Lower/Arrivals levels of Central Terminal Area (CTA) closed. Pls check w/ airlines if heading to LAX

According to several social media posts, it appeared that people had been evacuated from certain terminals, while other unverified reports claimed people were barricaded in a bathroom.

They tweeted on Sunday evening: “Police searching LAX after reports. All precautions being taken to ensure safety of public. Remain calm. Thank you for your cooperation.”

The upper departure level and lower arrivals level of the Central Terminal Area have both been closed and the airport has told passengers to check with airlines before they head to the airport.
