A nine-year-old boy has shared a powerful message about living with autism saying I’m a kid just like you.
George Yionoulis, who lives in Raleigh, North Carolina, made a video which was originally intended to be for his 21 classmates – but it has since gone viral.
In the heartwarming footage, the little boy talks about what it’s like living with autism and why he might behave in certain ways.
At the end of his honest clip, he tells people not to be afraid of asking him questions.
George begins by describing what his early years were like, saying I didn’t speak until I was almost three years old.
In fact, my parents weren’t sure if I would ever speak at all.
In the adorable footage, he explains that he’d often be unable to make eye contact with people, but insists it didn’t mean he wasn’t listening.
He explains that he can see and hear many things at the same time, making it hard to focus sometimes, and explains that’s why it can take him a little while to respond to people.
I also tend to take what people say literally, he says. That means if you say ‘take a seat,’ you might find one less chair in your classroom.
He says he sometimes get frustrated when things don’t go to plan, he might get more upset than others would, and he might even scream.
But George adds Don’t be afraid to come and ask me about it.
His mum Lisa Jolley told ABC News that for her and her husband, Mike Yionoulis, it’s like you’re solving a different puzzle every day and there’s a lot of pieces.
But the proud parents said George is utter joy and is a light to everyone he comes into contact with.
