A man claims he is now scared to leave his own home after being slammed as a paedophile because his 32-year-old girlfriend looks too young.
Shakey Finks, 42, has been told by police to carry a photocopy of Jessica Stevens’ driving licence to prove she is not underage.
Since the couple first met two years ago and became an item six months later, Shakey says they have been subjected to threats and vile abuse because Jessica looks younger than her age.
He claims he has been tormented in the street and his photo has even been wrongly circulated around the local schools.
He voluntarily went to police and had a full background check done for anyone who asked and they confirmed he has never been in trouble with the law.
But despite that he said the false allegations were ruining his life.
Shakey, of Plymouth, Devon said: “Apparently I rape little boys in Stonehouse and little girls in Devonport.
“I’ve been to the police about it. I’ve had a complete background check done. I don’t have a criminal background,
“I haven’t been arrested or charged with anything in my life.
“I go into town and mothers grab their children close.
“Jessica is very small, petite and doesn’t look her age – that’s where all this has come from.”
Jessica said Shakey can’t even visit the local shops without abuse.
She said: “If he goes to the local shop people mention things.
“One lady told him to get away from her kids and said that his photo had been circulated around the local schools.
“He walks past the pub and people outside tell him to get out of town, even people walking past the flat say things.
“It’s mainly men, but it can be young or old.
“Shakey was on the bus the other day and a girl came up to him and said she didn’t want to be on the same bus as him. He had to get off in the end.
“I used to go to a pilates class and he walked to meet me there once in floods of tears because he’d met someone on the street on the way there who had shouted abuse at him.
“We don’t like to go out very often now.
“We used to see each other off at the bus stop and go into the city to see the Christmas lights, but Shakey is now hesitant to go anywhere.”
Jessica has now been to the police three times in the past six months.
She added: “We have involved the police who have supported us in confirming that he has never committed any offence of this nature and in fact he has no criminal record at all.
“This has deeply upset us both as these allegations are wholly untrue, and has caused us both to suffer from anxiety and depression.
“I can completely understand parents’ worries in this day and age.
“However the abuse of an innocent person based only on rumours is completely wrong, and is even slanderous.”
