Helicopter loses control then crashes nose first into river with blades still whirling

This is the harrowing moment a helicopter flies over the heads of a crowded riverbank before crashing into the water.

With three people on board the chopper can be seen swooping across the sky.

It soon becomes clear that the pilot has lost control as he tries to steer it away from the crowds.

After passing over people for a third time it suddenly dropping into the Nenjiang River in Qiqihar, China.

It tips nose first into the water while the blades still spinning round then bursts into flames.

Eye-witnesses can be heard shouting and screaming as the chopper falls from the sky.

The footage shows the pilot and two passengers swimming away from the wreckage while firefighters race to put out the fire.

Earlier this year a special services officer was killed when a military helicopter crashed into the sea.

The accident happened off the coast of Taiwan after a 13,500-ton cargo ship ran aground.

After the tanker’s 21-man crew had been airlifted to safety, a Coast Guard team was taken back to the ship to check how much oil was leaking from the boat.
