ITN has hired former senior Sky News executive John McAndrew as executive producer of the next series of Tom Bradby’s The Agenda.
McAndrew, Sky News chief John Ryley’s right-hand man, left after 11 years after seeing through Sky News’s coverage of the EU referendum in June.
It is understood that McAndrew has been hired by ITN Productions, which makes commercials and TV programmes including Channel 4’s Dispatches and BBC2’s Young Vets.
McAndrew has been hired on a three-month contract to deliver the next series of Bradby’s current affairs and political discussion show The Agenda.
It is thought that McAndrew could stay on longer than the one series contract as ITN Productions is in rapid expansion mode.
Earlier this year John Hardie, the chief executive of ITN which produces news for ITV, Channel 4 and Channel 5, outlined an aggressive strategy including a huge expansion of ITN Productions by 2020.
While the division has shown strong growth it still currently accounts for about a fifth of ITN’s total revenues of £120m.
McAndrew, who left his role as editor of the BBC’s Daily Politics to join Sky News in 2005, was officially number three at Sky News, reporting to Ryley and Graham McWilliam, Sky’s former corporate affairs director, who was named deputy head of Sky News last July.
Sky News is currently in the process of recruiting his replacement.
