Donald Trump says he is 'getting America out of wars' in Piers Morgan interview and adds 'I want peace in the world'

Donald Trump has admitted he’d like to see peace in the world as he described his UK visit as perfect.

Speaking to GMB presenter Piers Morgan aboard Air Force One, President Trump was asked about his summit with North Korean dictator Kim Jong-un and his upcoming meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin .

Piers asked him if his plan of action was getting in the room and trying to do deals with the bad guys.

Trump replied I’d like to see peace, most people said ‘day one we’re going to be in war when Trump is president’ but we’re actually getting out of wars.

When asked if he can trust Kim Jong-Un to honour their agreement, he said In the last nine months there have been no missile tests, no nuclear tests, no nothing.

He was on the global stage before, what have I done? I met with him. I got along with him great. He’s very smart, great personality. He’s funny and tough. Plenty of the people I deal with are ruthless.

He famously had a war of words with the North Korean leader on Twitter where he boasted that his nuclear button was bigger than his.

Pressed by Piers on his thoughts on NATO and Putin, Trump confessed he didn’t know the Russian leader well.

He said We have now a much more solid NATO, than they’ve had for years.

And last year, since I was elected, we picked up 34 billion dollars extra, additional.

I’m not talking about 34, I’m talking about 34 additional. Now, you add that into all the other things I’ve done, um, President Putin has to respect what we’ve done.

Trump added I don’t know him. I met him a couple of times, I met him at the G20.

I think we could probably get along very well.

Somebody said, ‘Are you friends or enemies?’ I said, Well it’s too early to say, but right now I say we’re competitors.

But for Russia and the United States, and frankly the UK and other places, to get along with Russia and China and all of these other places…Piers that’s a good thing, that’s not a bad thing. That’s a really good thing.

Trump also described his visit to the UK as perfect and said Brits are a special people despite widespread protests surrounding his trip.

He said I think it was absolutely perfect, we have a great relationship with you Prime Minister, we met with the Queen – it can’t get any better than that.

I liked her a lot.

Piers also quizzed Trump about his historic meeting with The Queen and he said it made him emotional as it would have meant so much to his late mother.

Asked by Piers whether they had discussed Brexit , the President replied I did.

He went on Errrr she said, ‘It’s a very’ – and she’s right – ‘it’s a very complex problem’, I think nobody had any idea how complex that was going to be, that was going to be.

Trump added Everyone thought it was going to be ‘Oh it’s simple, we join or don’t join, or let’s see what happens’, er, who would’ve thought this was going to be so…

Piers quizzed him about which way the Monarch was leaning, but Trump replied Well, I can’t talk, y’know I’ve heard very strongly from a lot of people, you just don’t talk about that conversation with the Queen, right?

Let me tell you what I can talk about; she is an incredible woman, she is so sharp, she is so beautiful, when I say beautiful – inside and out. That is a beautiful woman.
