Brit in Russia who forgot his World Cup ticket reported missing as concerned family appeal for help

An England fan who travelled to Russia to watch the World Cup but forgot his ticket has gone missing.

Brit Douglas Moreton has not been seen since last Friday, a concerned relative wrote on social media.

A spokesperson for the British Embassy confirmed he had been reported missing and said it was in touch with the relevant authorities in Russia to try and establish his whereabouts.

Mr Moreton, aged in his late 50s to early 60s, was last seen in Samara where England played Sweden in the quarter-final.

He was expected to catch a train back to Moscow, the relative said, adding they believed he had made the journey as his credit card had been used in the Russian capital.

They described him as around 5ft 5in tall, having a Bristol accent, wearing glasses and rarely being clean shaven.

The fan hit headlines ahead of England’s clash with Panama at the end of last month after travelling more than 2,000 miles to watch the match, but forgot his ticket.

He bumped into ITV News editor Dan Howells, who was staying in the same hotel as him and took to twitter in an attempt to help.

He tweeted a picture of the two of them together at the time saying This is Douglas. He was at our hotel in Volgograd.

We’ve just bumped in to him in Nizhny Novgorod & he’s realised he’s left his match tickets in the drawer at home in Bristol. If anyone’s got a spare one let me know.

He later tweeted again that he couldn’t find the football fan but had managed to track him down a ticket.

Mr Moreton got back to his hotel room 40 minutes before kick off so couldn’t pick it up, Mr Howells added using the hashtag #DiscoverDouglas.

Posting on Facebook concerned for Mr Moreton, Darren Curry said today Could we please ask everyone to keep eyes out for England fan Douglas Moreton.

He was last seen in Samara and was meant to be in Moscow by now however he has not been in touch with family or friends and they are very concerned.

If anyone does see him could they ask him to call his family or his friend Terry.

If anyone in the group has any info or sightings could they please email as she can liaise with the family or contact us so we can pass any information on.

Thank you so much.

Another concerned relative said Mr Moreton’s bank card was used in Moscow this morning.

Hopefully with thousands on fans in Moscow today he will be spotted and found safe.

England beat Panama 6-1 and play Croatia in Moscow in the semi-final of the World Cup tonight.
